A politics and business junky, Darrell has pretty much done it all from writing legislation, successfully seeking policy reforms from municipal, provincial and federal governments, advising regulators, litigating in front of administrative tribunals and the courts up to and including the Supreme Court of Canada, leading for-profit, not-for-profit and charitable organizations, establishing new regulators, assessing governance structures, recommending governance improvements and seeing through their implementation, overseeing corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Darrell is a seasoned senior executive that has worked in 15 countries (Southeast and Central Asia, Europe and North America) and shown the ability to address almost any issue thoroughly and efficiently. His last assignment was saving the CNE. He raised $15 million during COVID to stave off its demise. It now sits with the largest surplus in its 146-year history.<h3>Looking Out for Others</h3>Darrell has a history of putting the interests of others first. He rescued people from Azerbaijan when their lives were in danger, he reunited two children who were abducted and taken half way around the world. He saw to it that their mother regained custody and obtained financial support. He housed seven Ukrainian refugees in his home after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. He supported Syrian refugees during the Syrian civil war. He succeeded in protecting pensioners when their employer's bankruptcy threatened their financial well-being against all odds. One of his daughters was born in Macedonia and he was married in Kyiv, Ukraine. The above photo is somewhat dated since the family is not altogether at the same time very often. He has lived, worked and thrived in many countries including four Muslim-dominated countries: Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. He understands the benefits of diversity and values what Scarborough-Rouge Park brings to the City's cultural milieu.

Election Dates

The largest group of respondents were in the 55 - 69 age group (45.1%), followed by the 40 - 54 grouping (25.6%). There was very little response from the youngest cohort - the under 25 category. There continues to be less participatory interest by the younger eligible voter.

Who has completed the survey

The vast majority of respondents reside in Ward 25.

Who lives where

Property taxes and city spending were identified as the most important issues. But there are others including policing and public safety, support for seniors and maintaining parks and green spaces that many people identified.

What matters most to you?

Over 41% of respondents are opposed to more housing development in Ward 25. Yet, more people favour development with a plurality favouring affordable or mid-size developments.

Support for Housing Development

Nearly three quarters of respondents support investment in arts and culture programming.

Support for Arts and Culture

Loss of green space and infrastructure strain concerned the majority of respondents. Only slightly over 2% of respondents were not concerned with infrastructure matters.

Development Concerns

Road resurfacing and maintenance, snow clearing and salting, and the TTC's frequency and reliability were the top three priorities. Cycling infrastructure was a concern for only slightly over 12% of respondents.
